Step by Step: Heather's Story, the latest
video in Comforty Media Concepts Inclusion Series, begins when
Heather, a little girl with Down syndrome, is eight years old and in "special
ed." It follows her into the fourth grade in "regular school," i.e., the
general education classroom attended by the typical children of her age in her
neighborhood.
Step by Step: Heather's Story is unique
because it enables audiences to observe inclusion in action over the course of two school
years. It provides the opportunity to watch Heather and her teachers, principal, family,
and classmates work and grow together.
The Inclusion Series
is an award-winning sequence of documentaries about the inclusion of people with
disabilities. The programs are used by educators and parents in schools, universities, and
communities nationwide to teach, through real-life stories, how schools can
implement inclusive policies and how inclusion can benefit us all.
